Susan George Biography
The next year, she returned to the screen in JACK THE RIPPER for Thames Television and NBC, and the second Amy International feature, the 1989 Tokyo Grand Prix winner, THAT SUMMER OF WHITE ROSES, in which she co-starred with Tom Conti and Rod Steiger. Over the years, one of George's behind the scenes talents has been that of song writing and for THAT SUMMER OF WHITE ROSES she wrote the title track and received the Anthony Asquith Award for Best New Composer from the British Film Institute in 1990.
In 1994 she starred in THE HOUSE THAT MARY BOUGHT, a psychological thriller based on Tim Wynne Jones' award winning novel ODD'S END, which was shot in France and Luxembourg. Her co-star was Ben Cross. George also executive produced the film under the AMY banner. It was co-written and directed by Simon MacCorkindale and was released very successfully as a Showtime Premiere Movie in October 1995.
George has been heavily committed to the success of Amy International and its slate of projects and worked tirelessly in the acquisition and development of each subject. SUCH A LONG JOURNEY, a feature which was developed in association with British Screen and Telefilm Canada and based on Rohinton Mistry's Booker Prize nominated novel, had its world premiere on 13th September 1998 at the Toronto Film Festival. It subsequently won Most Popular Film at the Vancouver Film Festival; 3 Genies including Best Actor; The Silver Chris at the Ohio Film Festival and it has a had fantastic theatrical run in Canada; garnered excellent reviews in the UK and the United States.
Several years ago she was the voice for the animated children's television series THE TIDINGS. She played all the female characters to co-star Robert Powell's males. A project she truly enjoyed. Immediately afterwards she went into the studio to record her first solo album on which she sings many of her own compositions. It was produced in collaboration with singer, songwriter Gordon Haskell of 'Harry's Bar' fame. She is due to begin work on her long awaited autobiography which will be completed in 2008.
Outside of show business, she has always had a passion for horses - the Arabian in particular and her Somerset based GEORGIAN ARABIANS that began as a hobby is now a fully fledge world class stud farm, and Susan is fast becoming a breeder of note.
Ten years ago Susan took on the challenging position of Honorary President of the Horse of the Year Show in her quest to raise the profile of all things equine.
She has been an animal lover all her life and believes in homeopathy and alternative therapy. To this end she created her equine aromatherapy line of products that are designed for animal welfare. SUSAN GEORGE NATURALLY is a flourishing cottage industry business that she intends to expand over the next few years.
Susan George is also a recognized equine photographer known for capturing the spirit of the horse through the eye of the lens. September 2007 sees the launch of her first photographic exhibition "Spirit of Equus" at the established Petley Fine Art Gallery in London's West End. She and the artist Roy Petley have enjoyed a long and special friendship over the years and it is the first time that the gallery has chosen to exhibit a photographer's work.
Following the overwhelming success of the exhibition , plans are being made to exhibit world wide beginning with an exclusive viewing in Monaco 2008.
